Villages and districts

Loimaa’s core centre is surrounded by wide open fields and forests, bordered by the Loimijoki River. Loimaa has a total population of about 15 500 inhabitants, more than half of whom live in rural villages and settlements.

An urban centre and vibrant rural villages offer living conditions, business opportunities and recreational and leisure recreational opportunities. The aim is to maintain the vitality of residential areas both in the city centre and in the countryside, with an important role to be played by not only the city, but also the local community and village associations and residents.

Loimaa’s sense of community can be seen in the active village associations and neighbourhoods, whose residents organise, for example, one of Finland’s largest scrap markets, dances, machine-building events, Pajapäivät, August market Elotori and flea markets in the yards. There is also a personal Pyramid Picnic and the relaxed village days Kuutamokeikka and Melliläpäivä. Cultural events range from concerts and art exhibitions to music events from punk to alternative rock and song nights.

It is also possible for those working in villages to apply for various subsidies from the city or through projects. Read more on the Support for villages page.
