The Council for the Elderly is a body established by the City Government of Loimaa for its term of office based on the Act on Services for the Elderly (Act 980/2012 on Supporting the Capacity of the Elderly and Social and Health Services for the Elderly).

The members of the Council for the Elderly for the 2021-2024 term of office are elected by the City Council on the basis of proposals from the associations. The Advisory Board on Veterans’ Affairs has been abolished and merged with the Council for the Elderly at the end of the 2020 term.

The mission statement of the Council for the Elderly in Loimaa:

  1. Promote cooperation between older people, pensioners’ and other older people’s organizations and the city, and support older people’s participation and influence in city decision-making.
  2. Contributes to the preparation of plans to support the elderly population and to the evaluation of the adequacy and quality of services.
  3. To promote city government decision-making that affects the general conditions of the city and has an impact on the housing and living conditions of older people.
  4. Seeks to influence the design and implementation of the environment so that public spaces are suitable for the needs of the elderly, disabled and sick.
  5. Makes initiatives and proposals and gives opinions to the various city authorities on matters concerning older people.
  6. Ensures that the issues dealt with are communicated in a versatile and reliable manner, and acts responsibly as a representative of his/her association.
  7. Prepares an action plan for the period of the Council’s activities, works within the framework of the budget prepared for the Council’s activities, makes proposals for the use of funds and submits an annual report on its activities to the City Council and the Welfare Board for information.
  8. Contributes to monitoring the progress of the restructuring of the social and health care system and participates, as appropriate, in the various working groups in which the Council for the Elderly may have the right to participate.
  9. Carries out other tasks that may fall within the scope of the Council for the Elderly and as determined by the City Council.
