The birth of the Volunteer park caretakers group

Loimaa Puistokummit was officially launched in 2022 by a decision of the city government, when the former volunteer activity was transformed into an organized activity. This enables the city to support the activities financially.

The park volunteers operate without compensation in the public green areas of the city of Loimaa, which include the city’s parks, playgrounds, forests and outdoor sports facilities. Park volunteer activities are voluntary and you can take part when it suits you. It is often done alone, but sometimes together.

The park volunteers belong to a WhatsApp group, which is used to communicate about activities and joint events, or the park volunteer can subscribe to a pick-up service for their filled rubbish bags, for example.

The city supports the activities by providing the park volunteers with a park volunteer vest, gloves, rubbish bags and a litter picker. The city also collects the collected twigs and rubbish.

About us

The park volunteers are made up of women and men of different ages. Mostly, they work independently, for example when jogging and picking up rubbish. The work also involves pruning the city’s flowerbeds and removing weeds from the roots of trees. Sometimes they get together for coffee and to plan activities. There are also joint work parties. It’s a very friendly bunch and new members are welcome to join.

Easily. If you are interested in taking care of the environment, contact the City of Loimaa’s municipal engineering foreman. He will provide you with a free Park volunteer vest, gloves, rubbish bags and a litter picker. To join the WhatsApp group, you will need the name and phone number of the participant. There is no obligation to participate.
