Found animals

The City of Loimaa has an agreement with the Käpälämäki Foundling Home for animals from 1.3.2020 for the temporary care of found animals in accordance with Section 15 of the Animal Welfare Act. The shelter takes in domesticated animals, wild and feral animals are not covered by the shelter.

Registration of animals

The obligation to register and label applies to a very wide range of animals, with the exception of the most commonly kept pets such as cats and dogs. If you keep chickens, ducks, pigs, sheep, goats, horses, cows or bees, for example, you must register them.

Even one animal triggers a registration obligation!

The aim of animal identification and registration is to ensure the welfare of animals, to prevent animal diseases and to follow the flow of food from animals from the beginning to the end of the production chain.

For more information on animal registration , visit the Rural Services website.

Dog park

The city of Loimaa has a dog park for walking dogs. The dog park is located behind the ice rink along Kaunismäinen Street.

To make sure everyone feels good about walking your dog, here are some general guidelines to follow:

  • Don’t bring a sick, angry or horny dog into the park
  • Make sure your dog is properly vaccinated and dewormed
  • Make sure your dog gets along with other dogs
  • Keep the park gate(s) closed at all times
  • Dogs must not be left alone and unsupervised in an enclosure
  • Every dog owner is responsible for their pet and its actions
  • Keep the park tidy by collecting dog waste in the appropriate containers
  • Make sure your dog’s barking does not disturb people’s sleep (22-07)

Dog poo waste bins

There are dog waste bins in the city centre of Loimaa and in the towns of Hirvikoski and Alastaro. The collection bins are equipped with collection bags to collect the faeces and put them in the collection bin.

Dog poo alert campaign

Koirankakkaroskis.fi is a citizens’ movement founded by two individuals with the aim of reducing the amount of dog poo left in the wild. The problem is that there are no municipal rubbish bins, especially in small housing estates. With a dog poo bin sign, the owner of a detached house can inform passing dog walkers that it is OK to drop a poo in the house’s bin. Not having to carry the catch for miles to the home bin makes people more willing to collect poo.

The city of Loimaa has joined the campaign. Stickers are available in libraries and can also be requested from the Loimaa Region Homeowners Association: loimaanomakoti@seutuposti.fi

This apartment has a pet sticker

Use a doorstop to tell people about the pet in the apartment, so that any rescuer trying to get in can be prepared for it. Your pet’s chances of being rescued from a burning apartment are also improved if the rescuer knows in advance that there may be an animal in the apartment to rescue. A good place to place the sticker is above the letterbox and any “no advertising, please” sign.

The stickers are available from the Technical and Environmental Services Centre and the advice desk at the Town Hall.
