Stormwater

Stormwater is rainwater or meltwater run-off from the ground, roofs of buildings and similar places, which is treated on the property or drained off the property. Drainage water from the foundations of buildings is also stormwater.

The stormwater charge is based on the Land Use and Building Act. The charge covers the costs incurred by the municipality for the drainage system for the properties within the area affected by the drainage system. The charge can be levied irrespective of whether the property is physically connected to the drainage system. Stormwater does not just stay on the property but is discharged into the ditches or drains in the area, i.e. into the city-managed stormwater systems.

The City Council sets the basis for the stormwater fee and the tariff that includes it. On 10 December 2018, Loimaa City Council approved the criteria for the stormwater fee and the unit price of €27 per year.

For example, the fee for a detached house is €27, for terraced houses and blocks of flats €41-270. See below for a more detailed explanation of how the fee is determined.

The City of Loimaa will start charging for stormwater in 2019.
